The longtime leader of the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s housing division is retiring.

Paul Evans has announced that he will step down in late May. An exact date for his departure has not been determined. A search and screen committee has been formed to fill the position.

Evans joined University Housing in 1978. He has served as the division’s director since 1998 and is credited with helping guide it through an era of renewal and growth with the revitalization of older residence halls and the development of new ones. Housing also greatly enhanced the student experience during Evans’ tenure, establishing residential learning communities in nine halls.

“Paul’s steady leadership has been instrumental to the success of the division,” Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Darrell Bazzell says. “He leaves very big shoes to fill.”
