Bus riders required to show ID starting Monday

November 8, 2012

Madison Metro will step up enforcement of the requirement that riders using its unlimited-use pass show employment or school photo identification beginning Monday, Nov. 12.

The implementation of this already-existing policy is being done to address concerns regarding the fraudulent use of unlimited ride passes. Riders boarding the free campus bus routes will not be required to present their pass or identification.

Because UW–Madison employee and student bus passes are non-transferable, UW bus pass holders without a valid UW Wiscard or UW Health/Hospital ID will have their passes confiscated. A one-day pass will be offered.

UW employees and UW Health employees whose passes are confiscated because they forgot their identification may receive a replacement pass from any Transportation Services office,  http://transportation.wisc.edu, for $20. Passes that are found to have been transferred to an unauthorized user will not be replaced.

Students who have had passes confiscated should contact ASM Bus Program Office at 263-3950 or buspass@rso.wisc.edu.
