UW police ask for cooperation from pedestrians

November 3, 2011 By

For safety’s sake, UW police are asking pedestrians not to walk on Linden Drive at the School of Human Ecology construction site. The sidewalk on the north side of Linden is closed.

“We are again getting complaints and having issues with people walking in the road at the School of Human Ecology site,” says UW Police Central Campus Community Officer Kristin Radtke. “Pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the south side of Linden Drive and the crosswalk as well.”

The same problems occurred in mid-January of this year.

Many pedestrians paid little or no attention to the signs telling them that the sidewalk on the north side of Linden Drive was closed and urging them to use the sidewalk on the south side of the roadway. Instead, pedestrians continued to walk in the street, creating a safety problem.

On another note: A utility project will close Linden Drive between Babcock Drive and Farm Place from Monday, Oct. 31 to approximately late December. The entrances to Lot 40 will remain open and pedestrian access to Babcock Hall and Russell Labs will be preserved, sometimes with temporary sidewalks.
