Wisconsin Alumni Association honors outstanding chapters
Dec. 13, 2006
This fall, the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) recognized nine official alumni chapters for their outstanding commitment to the University of Wisconsin-Madison and its graduates. The organizations were awarded Bascom status, the highest level alumni chapters can achieve.
The nine alumni chapters honored in 2006 are: Big Apple Badgers (New York City); Boston; Brown County, Wis.; Houston; Marshfield, Wis.; Motor City (Detroit); Rochester, Minn.; Twin Cities; and Waukesha County, Wis.
WAA has a worldwide network of more than 100 volunteer-run alumni chapters that connect Badgers to each other and to the UW, no matter where they live. Chapters awarded Bascom status maintain a high level of service to their local alumni.
In addition to hosting traditional chapter events such as game-watching parties and Founders' Days, Bascom chapters plan events geared to young alumni and diverse audiences, represent UW-Madison at college fairs, participate in local educational outreach efforts, and partner with local organizations.
Bascom chapters receive special support from WAA, including a Matching Dollar Scholarship donation, alumni surveys, and eligibility for educational and programming grants that expand offerings to alumni on the local level.
